The Partners Alex Witten-Hannah and Susan Howard are retiring and the legal practice of Witten-Hannah Howard

will be transferred to Muir + Partners on 3 November 2025.

After much agonising, Susan Howard and I are retiring from legal practice. I say “agonising”, because over my 55 years in legal practice, so many clients have become friends and in coming to this decision we struggled with a sense of not letting you down. However, I am 77 next birthday. Time to hand over the reins!

 

We have given careful consideration to various options and in particular engaging with a compatible law firm to take care of our clients. We are very comfortable and pleased with our choice.  Witten‑Hannah Howard will be taken over by a local firm, Muir + Partners. A family friendly firm in attractive offices that is located behind Aubergine restaurant in Takapuna (with parking). We are confident that they will look after the interests of our clients as we would wish and you are entitled to expect. We are pleased to advise that our staff solicitor, George Knapp, who has been with us for a number of years, will be joining Muir + Partners.

 

Muir + Partners is a newly established law firm in Takapuna led by Josh Muir, who has been in legal practice for more than 15 years, and a partner at Lockhart Muir for the past seven years. Josh is joined by senior lawyer Tim Grace who assists with leadership of the firm, and a wider team of experienced professionals (including five lawyers and two legal executives). Together, they specialise in private client work, including trusts, estate planning, estate administration, along with residential and commercial property advice. In addition, they provide a breadth of commercial legal services to small and medium‑sized businesses, from sole traders through to publicly listed companies. On 3 November 2025, all our current files will be transferred to Muir + Partners, unless you advise us otherwise. Should you have funds invested through Witten‑Hannah Howard on short or fixed term deposits (through ASB Bank Limited) then, unless you provide us with instructions to the contrary, those funds will transfer to Muir + Partners on 3 November 2025 to be held by them on the same basis as we did for clients. Put simply, your funds will be held on term deposit in your name.

 

Susan and I wish to thank you very much for working with us over the years; some of you over four decades! With very best wishes from us both.
